In the beginning...

Fly tiers had limited materials to work with. Most of the materials used in designing and developing the first generations of saltwater flies were natural materials and simple artificial materials such as Mylar.

Today both saltwater and freshwater fly tiers enjoy a wide variety of synthetic materials! These advanced materials provide both motion and color not easily obtained with natural materials.

Below are patterns made with many of these advanced synthetic tying materials.
