This fly is a "classic fly"
in the truest sense. Named for it's originator Tom Loving, this fly is the
very first known pattern designed specifically for striped bass!
As with many of the classics, it's beauty lies in the effective
simplicity of the design. It is also among the oldest saltwater fly
patterns still in regular use today. According to the noted fly
fisherman and tier Joe Brooks, this fly was first used for stripers in
Chesapeake Bay in the 1920's - over 80 years ago!Today, the pattern remains as popular and
effective as it was more than 80 years ago. I have taken many good bass and
seen many others take on the pattern, often when the fish wouldn't touch
anything else. It is also been proven highly effective for all manner or
game fish everywhere including weakfish (sea trout) bluefish, jacks, snook
etc.
